Earth Day nurse-out and a sticker for you.

Mws

(Sorry, the stickers are all gone!)

This Sunday, April 22nd is Earth Day, and to celebrate, the South Shore Breastfeeding Club is planning a nurse-out on the Boston Common from 12-5 pm.  For more information please see their website.  Thanks to Angela at Breastfeeding 1-2-3 for the heads up about this event!

Not sure how breastfeeding is better for the planet?  In short, to make breastmilk all you need is you (ahem) pregnancy fat and a whole lotta time on the couch.  To make formula you need cows and land for grazing, materials for packaging (which end up as landfill waste), and fuel for manufacturing and transport.  Breastfeeding is also a natural child spacer, which guards against overpopulation and protects the health of mothers and babies.  For more detail on how breastfeeding protects the environment, see this post.
