As I think I've mentioned, I'm part of a breastfeeding coalition in my area (Western Massachusetts), called the Pioneer Valley Breastfeeding Task Force. Here's a little update on the projects we've been pursuing, with some great help from Motherwear staff.
First, we had a bunch of 'breastfeeding welcome here' stickers with the new symbol of breastfeeding made up to post in businesses and other places in our area. The hope, of course, is that our community will embrace breastfeeding 'anytime, anywhere.'
The stickers will also raise money (we hope!) for a breastmilk collection station we want to set up for the new Mother's Milk Bank of New England, which is under development.
So, I hope that you'll consider buying one of these stickers. You can either pay through PayPal or send $2.50 each to Motherwear, attn: Alison, 4 Open Square Way, Suite 410, Holyoke, MA 01040.
Second, I put my very weak web design skills to use developing this humble website for our coalition (see picture above to right). Actually, if I hadn't been writing this blog I never could have figured out how to set up that site. On the website you'll find a link to our store where you can buy lots of stuff with the breastfeeding symbol - all to benefit our coalition.
Finally, here's a link to Mothering's toolkit for using the new breastfeeding symbol. It has some great suggestions, guidelines, and links for activism, including a map (which you may have seen in the July/August issue of Mothering) of nursing in public laws. I'm going to use at tomorrow's La Leche League walk.
