General anesthesia and breastfeeding.

VideoJug: Does general anesthesia affect breastfeeding?

If only all breastfeeding advice was so clearly put.  I have to say that this not the advice I hear women given when they go in for a surgery.  Usually they're told to pump and dump for anywhere from 2 to 24 hours.

There's more good information on this topic here and here.  And for a post on breastfeeding and MRI or CT scans, see this post.  Thanks to Angela for posting about this a few months ago!

Thanks for the info, its very useful.
I'd like to share another website I found that has many videos regarding pregnancy, childbirth, breastfeeding and parenting. the site is called http://www.sutree.com
My friend told me about it when I told her I'm having some trouble breastfeeding my newborn. Ever since I heard about this site I'm hooked! Maybe you'll find it helpful as well

It is nice to hear such concise, clear info. And even better that the info tells us that moms can breastfeed soon after receiving general anesthesia. It makes sense (to me) that if moms are awake and alert (no longer under the effects of the anesthesia) that their breastmilk should also be fine at that point.

that's good to know. i had my gallbladder taken out and my surgeon told me 24-48 hours to pump and dump. my anesthesiologist said i could still bf and no dumping but didn't seem to sure of himself. i had printed out a page from kellymom that listed common drugs used during surgery and asked if he would be using any. i also had the nurse write down all the drugs used during my surgery and researched them before i bf
