A study just released in Pediatrics is just fascinating to me.
The study looked at new national data from the CDC's Infant Feeding Practices Study II. It found that, if mothers didn't receive get care reflecting "Baby Friendly" policies, such as initiating breastfeeding within an hour after birth, feeding breastmilk only, and not using pacifiers, they were about 13 times less likely to breastfeed for at least six weeks than mothers who received baby-friendly care.
13 times.
And what percentage of mothers received the right kind of care? 8.1 percent.
Someone cheer me up.
