Nestle, maker of infant formula, is holding an event for bloggers this week.
Nestle, as you probably know, has long been the target of a boycott over their marketing practices in developing countries. Nestle, among other companies, has been found to violate the international code governing the marketing of formula. Formula marketing is a significant factor contributing to the 1.4 million lives lost each year to suboptimal breastfeeding. For a great summary of the rationale for the boycott, see this open letter to the bloggers attending the event at Phd in Parenting, or Baby Milk Action.
So since the guest list became public there has been quite a bit of controversy. Can you remain credible as a breastfeeding advocate if you accept these gifts from Nestle?
I've been boycotting Nestle for quite some time, and have my own thoughts about this, but I'd like to hear yours.
