Thanks to Hachette Book Group, I have two books to give away this week.  They aren't quite breastfeeding related, but probably of interest to most of us.

Join the September Carnival of Breastfeeding: Learning about breastfeeding

For the back-to-school season, our upcoming carnival will be on the topic of breastfeeding education.  Please join in by submitting a post!

You might write about:

• How you learned what you needed to know about breastfeeding.
• Training to become a La Leche League leader, lactation consultant, or breastfeeding peer counselor.
• Breastfeeding education in schools and universities.
• Your experience in a breastfeeding class.

We'll be looking for posts that are:

• Well written and grammatically correct
• Thoughtful and directly related to the carnival subject
• Submitted from blogs related to breastfeeding or parenting

Got breastmilk? Buy a onesie to support our breastfeeding coalition!

Don't you just love these 'got breastmilk?' onesies?  Well, you can have one of your very own and support our local breastfeeding coalition's projects!

Your contribution will support our efforts to set up a milk collection station in our region for the Mother's Milk Bank of New England, to provide rental pumps to our local WIC offices, and to support breastfeeding-friendly businesses and employers in our community.

Motherwear's semi-annual bra sale, and $1 donated to La Leche League for every bra sold during World Breastfeeding Week.

In celebration of World Breastfeeding Week, Motherwear is donating $1 to La Leche League International for each bra sold this week!

Motherwear's 25th anniversary contest for August: Mother support.

Happy World Breastfeeding Week!

In honor of this year's theme, "Mother Support: Going for the Gold," this month's contest for a $25 Motherwear gift certificate asks you to tell us about being helped by, or helping, another nursing mom. 

Maybe it was your sister who told you about cabbage leaves, or maybe you helped a friend chose the right pump.  Maybe it was a La Leche League leader who helped you get the latch just right. 

However you've supported or gotten support from another mother, please tell us about it in the comments!  Doing so will enter you into a contest for a $25 Motherwear gift certificate.

TV show seeks mothers who are cross nursing, researcher seeks mothers who have induced lactation.

A national magazine and a national television show (now doesn't that make you curious?) are working on a piece about cross nursing, and are looking for moms to interview.  A while back I wrote about watching a similar segment on a morning show at the dentist's office waiting room, and the brief conversation that ensued.   

I have to admit that I always get a little nervous when I hear about a TV show focusing on some facet of the breastfeeding experience which is a little less mainstream, but I've been told that the piece will be respectful.  Here are the details:

A national parenting magazine and a national morning show are teaming up on a story about cross-nursing that will air later this month, and they're looking for moms who would be interested in sharing their experiences on camera.  If you are currently cross-nursing - breastfeeding a friend or relative's baby - please email with a short description of your cross-nursing experiences and a phone number where you can be reached by the producer of this segment.  No travel would be required for the interview - a camera crew would visit your home to tape the piece. 

And Lenore of the website Ask Lenore, is looking for individuals who have induced lactation for her doctoral research.  Lenore's website is a fantastic resource for mothers who want to induce lactation:

Individuals who have induced lactation within the last three years are being sought to participate in a study being conducted by Lenore Goldfarb, B. Comm., B. Sc., Dip. C., IBCLC, for her doctoral research. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the practices and outcomes of women who followed a protocol or procedure to induce lactation to provide breastmilk to their baby and the experiences they have had. Study participants would complete an internet-based survey.  Contact Lenore for more information.

Motherwear's 25th anniversary contest for June.

Each month this year I get to give away a $25 gift certificate to celebrate Motherwear's 25th year of supporting nursing moms.  I'm also posting vintage catalog covers to show how Motherwear has changed over the years.

For this month's contest I thought we could also celebrate Fathers' Day.
